Had a wonderful time this evening with my good friend Barbara Oldenberg.  We attended the unveiling of the bronze plaque for the restoration of the Ukiah Railroad Depot. The depot was built in 1929. Barbara’s father was a ticket agent there and she brought along a photo of her and her father in front of the newly built depot when she was about 12 years old.
She is now 92. She and her family moved to Southern California shortly after the photo was taken and she returned to Ukiah in the 70s with her husband Herm.  She was quite the celebrity at today’s event being photographed and interviewed on camera. I told her it was her “15 minutes of fame” Andy Warhol had promised us all. I think she really enjoyed seeing the renovated depot and her attendance added a historical perspective to the event for everyone there.
We went to dinner after at Patrona. She shared lots of great stories of her childhood and early years teaching school. This was one of the most enjoyable evenings I have spent in the town I love.
